Abstract   |   Authors   |   References
The study of the migration situation including one in the regions is a topical issue of scientific research, as resettlement leads to changes in the quantitative and qualitative population’s parameters which can have negative consequences for the territory (transformation of population structures: gender imbalances, aging, leaching of highly qualified specialists, etc.). In this regard, migration should be taken into account in the management of territories. The purpose of the research is to analyze the migration situation in the Vologda Oblast in the 21st century on the basis of official statistical data on migration movement published by the Territorial Authority of the Federal State Statistics Service of the Vologda Oblast (Vologdastat), data from the Unified Interdepartmental Information and Statistical System (Rosstat) and scientific literature. As the research result, the authors determine that the current migration situation in the region is characterized by an increase in gross migration indicators. Trends of internal migration are manifested in the preservation of a centripetal character in two directions: from the village to the city, from large cities to the “capital”. There is a decrease in the share and number of rural population, spatial compression of the populated area of the Vologda Oblast. All this indicates that it is necessary to adjust the regional migration policy in order to meet the needs of the economic, social and demographic development of the region. First of all, it is necessary to pursue an active socio-economic policy aimed at ensuring equal conditions for the realization of human potential in each municipal district and city, the necessary conditions for life. The results may be of practical interest to researchers in demography, migration and sociology, as well as representatives of authorities implementing demographic, migration and social policies
