Labor and professional activity is the field where human potential is realized and success is achieved. In order for the connection of a person and a profession to be successful, the consistency of various factors is necessary. Among them are the orientation of the individual to achieve success, as well as socio–demographic parameters (gender, age, education, etc.), which characterize the dynamics of personality behavior and determine the predisposition of subjects to the successful implementation of a particular type of activity. The purpose of the research is to analyze the socio–demographic characteristics of people for whom work is a way to achieve success. The information base is sociological surveys: monitoring of the quality of the labor potential of the Vologda Oblast population and the pilot search project “Modern Successful Person” conducted by an international team of scientists in Russia, Poland, and Belarus in 2018. Based on the presented data, we have revealed that among population aimed at success, there are almost equal shares of both men and women, mainly young people (up to 40 years old), middle-income people with professional education. The vast majority of respondents have only a basic job in private companies and budget organizations. We have shown that the successful category as a whole is distinguished by a higher quality of human potential, more rational and efficient employment, the fullest use of their abilities and inclinations, and taking into account previous studies, we can talk about a higher level of work motivation and social well-being. We have determined that successful individuals are more proactive, prone to self-realization, show high activity in achieving their goals. The novelty of the research lies in the expansion of theoretical ideas about success in the context of human labor activity. The practical significance is determined by the possibilities of applying the research results in the personnel management system to understand the motives for achieving success and creating conditions for their implementation
